Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Fuson's Eclectic Martial Arts officially opened their doors for training in Michiana in 2009.
What is your primary product or service?
Martial Arts, Jeet Kune Do and Self-Defense Training and Certification.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have been actively involved in the martial arts since 1976. I enjoyed the influence of the philosophy of Kung Fu and then worked my way into the more active and combative accepts of the arts and was hooked from then on.
I am member of the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame and hold the 2009 Multi-disciplined Master of the Year title. I have for years taught seminars and clinics on a routine basis both locally and throughout the country.
I have been trained in both classical and non-classical methods of Karate & Kung Fu prior to entering the military and then further studied dozens of Martial Arts Systems from around the world.
I am a second generation student of the late Bruce Lee and originally became a certified Instructor under Jeet Kune Do legend Guro/Sifu Larry Hartsell in 2003.
With my instructors blessing, I went on to form the Fuson Jeet Kune Do Academy where I am the chief instructor. I am also a certified instructor in many styles under numerous instructors and prefer to teach a non classical progressive blend of martial arts over traditional styles.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I am the first person in Michiana to open a legitimate school teaching Jeet Kune Do, Kalsadapo and other Rare Martial Arts. Today we combine the knowledge of these arts into a course on Integrated Martial Arts.
This is the same program I have personally taught to members of the Military and both Federal and Local Law Enforcement, including the South Bend Police Defensive Tactics Training Officers
My time in the service had shown me the importance of finding something functional and effective for real world application. I know what works and under what conditions, because I have personally applied these methods both in a military combative Life and Death survival environment and in the civilian/law enforcement world.
I was fortunate to cross train and look into as many arts as I could, still prior to the UFC and the current popularity of the mixed martial arts. which but me ahead of what many people were doing at the time.
On top of that I had become a known and respected as a second generation student of both Ed Parker and Bruce Lee.
These were the 2 men that changed the course of martial arts in the U.S. and I am proud to be a second-generation instructor under both of them.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
My primary location for the Academy is in Granger, I do teach for school systems as well and when asked I do seminars and privates in numerous locations.
I actually have an affiliate program for some of the arts I teach which keeps me busy traveling.

Which areas do you service?

Who owns your company or runs daily operations?

What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"The goal of the martial arts is not for the destruction of an opponent, but rather for self growth and self perfection. The practice of a martial art should be a practice of love-for the preservation of life, for the preservation of body, and for the preservation of family and friends"
